Community Baboon Sanctuary

Click here for Jungle Monkey Lodge

1) HOWLER RIVER SAFARI: 1 hour by PONTOON BOAT
This tour leaves from and returns to Howler Monkey Lodge hourly. This tour is an excellent choice for day-visitors to the CBS (Community Baboon Sanctuary) Museum wishing to see more of the Sanctuary. The Howler River Safari is a one hour boat ride where we leisurely steam up the Meandering Belize River to observe birds, huge iguanas, howler monkeys, and maybe even the endangered morelet crocodile while learning about the CBS and the many trees, vines and epiphytes which all call this sanctuary home. There will be excellent photo opportunities so bring along your camera or video. A very stable and comfortable 26 foot pontoon boat allows everyone the natural habitat in an eco-friendly way.

Read what our client had to say about this tour.

2) JUNGLE RIVER CANOE TOUR: 2.5 hours by CANOE - Guided
Come join for the fun outdoor adventure, listen to the excitement of the Howler Monkeys shadowed by the tranquility of the Belize River. We "put in" our canoe at the nearby village of "Double Head Cabbage" to start our two and half hour adventure, drifting, paddling down the meandering Belize River. You will travel for approximately 8 miles while seeing riparian forest, which parallel the River stopping at our lodge. At rivers edge, the forests form dense luxuriant tangles of trees, vines, shrubs, Epiphytes and herbs.

On this trip you will see several troops of Black Howler Monkeys, huge iguanas and many species of birds and if you are lucky the endangered Morelet Crocodile.

NIGHT TOURS

3) Crocodile Night Adventure: 2 - 3 hours by CANOE
"This one is a big hit with our guests". Probably one of the most exciting trips you might ever experience. We put in at Mussel Creek, a 10-minute drive from the Lodge, equipped with canoes, Flashlights, life vests, radio communication and accompanied by an experienced guide. We begin our adventure with the cool of the night setting in and the mist from the warm water rising up, we stealthily paddle towards these living fossils. Our objective? To get as close as possible to them, so close, sometimes you could almost touch them, but a photo is probably a better idea.

With bats flying around and other nocturnal creatures stirring about and fish jumping all around you, some even landing in your canoe, the ambiance of a star-filled sky on a jungle river makes for an exhilarating experience for you to enjoy. We are professionals at this and assure all a safe trip, children six years and older are welcome.

4) River Night Hunt: 2 hours by PONTOON BOAT
Right after dinner, we arm ourselves with flashlights, life vests, cameras and radio communication and go "hunting" for crocodiles and other nocturnal creatures, trying to get as close to them so as to "shoot" them with our cameras. It is fun to be on the river at night searching for all the little critters that come to the river for a sip of water while enjoying a star filled sky as the boat guides through the river. This wonderful two-hour tour is similar to the Crocodile Night Adventure only that it is done on our comfortable, 26-foot pontoon Boat on the Belize River, taking away some of the apprehension from our less adventuro guests. This is a treat for everyone!

5) River Day Tour : Includes Van Transfer, Howler River Safari by Pontoon boat (above), Museum fee paid

This 3 hour (approximate) tour is especially tailored for cruise ship passengers or any other independent visitors staying in Belize City wishing to experience the Community Baboon Sanctuary (CBS) in one day.

Our typical itinerary day trip starts with us picking you up in Belize City in our air-conditioned vehicle. We arrive 45 minutes later at the Community Baboon Sanctuary. We stop at Howler Monkey Lodge, for restroom facilities and embarkation on the HOWLER RIVER SAFARI. Our stable and comfortable 26-foot Pontoon boat is an excellent platform for picture taking which allows just about everyone the opportunity to see nature in its natural habitat in an eco-friendly way.

The Howler River Safari is a one hour boat ride where we leisurely steam up the meandering Belize River pausing to observe birds, iguanas, howler monkeys, and maybe even the endangered morelet crocodile while learning about the CBS and the many trees, vines and epiphytes which all call this sanctuary home.

We disembark at Howler Monkey Lodge (where you can purchase t-shirts and hand made fly swatters among other things) and proceed on a short nature hike to see some special photogenic howler monkeys ending at the CBS museum (entrance fee is included). Our vehicle will be waiting for you there to take you back to Belize City.

On this day trip you will see a good portion of the CBS while having a good time. We use our own equipment; lodge and personnel to do this tour and therefore assure everyone that we will get you back to Belize City in time for your shuttle, hotel or flight.
